video-delivery-specs

This skill should be used when the user asks "what are the specs for Instagram Reels / TikTok / YouTube / broadcast", "export settings for social", "what aspect ratio and bitrate", "how do I repurpose 16:9 to 9:16", "safe area / title-safe for vertical", "pre-delivery checklist", or "collect files for handover". It outputs per-platform spec sheets, a cutdown matrix, captioning/accessibility notes, and a QC + collect-files checklist.

Control levels describe skill capabilities and suggested control measures; they do not represent quality or safety certifications, nor do they dictate usability. Usage decisions rest entirely with users and administrators. Different agent hosts apply varying constraints; do not assume hosts provide automatic protection. 1How It Works & Mechanism

Two prerequisite decisions: what form the master must take to survive all cutdowns/crops, and which delivery path each platform takes; the master strategy must be determined before starting production.

skills/video-delivery-specs/SKILL.md
Decide the master before animating — re-cropping after the fact is where deliveries break.
What is being done here: Establishing "cropping after the fact" as the primary cause of delivery failure; the rule dictates creating a 16:9 master with a central 1:1 title-safe spine for multi-aspect deliverables, with the expectation that 9:16 requires reframing/re-layout rather than simple cropping.

Platform specifications are carried in a master data table (aspect ratio / pixels / duration / container codec / notes), serving as the single source of truth for all exports.

skills/video-delivery-specs/SKILL.md
| IG Reels | 9:16 | 1080×1920 | ≤90s (up to 3min) | MP4/MOV, H.264 | UI overlays bottom + right; keep action centre |
What is being done here: Consolidating scattered export requirements into a single queryable table, paired with quantified bitrate and audio guidelines (1080p social at 8-12 Mbps, AAC 320 kbps 48 kHz).

Safe areas define pixel-level danger zones based on platform UI overlays, establishing the rule that "UI dictating layout takes precedence over specs dictating export."

skills/video-delivery-specs/SKILL.md
- **9:16 (Reels/TikTok/Shorts/Story)**: reserve top ~250px (handle/close) and bottom ~250-400px (caption, CTA, controls).
What is being done here: Providing hard constraints such as top/bottom margins for vertical video, TikTok's right-side icon column, and keeping core text within the central 1080×1080 area; simultaneously defines broadcast title-safe (90%) and action-safe (93%).

Multi-aspect repurposing from a single source uses a re-layout matrix rather than cropping: 16:9 → 9:16 requires repositioning elements, and this demands allocated budget/time.

skills/video-delivery-specs/SKILL.md
| 16:9 → 9:16 | Crop hard to centre + re-stack elements vertically | Wide compositions break; reflow text/logos |
What is being done here: Juxtaposing methods and risks for each aspect ratio conversion (1:1 side-crop, 4:5 subtle crop, cutdowns requiring retiming rather than simple trimming), and establishing the "central 1:1 spine" as universal best practice.

Subtitling strategy branches by distribution channel: social defaults to burned-in/open captions (due to muted playback and unreliable platform auto-captions), while long-form video and broadcast use sidecar files.

skills/video-delivery-specs/SKILL.md
- **Open (burned-in) captions**: baked into the video. Default for social — most users watch muted, and platform auto-captions are unreliable.
What is being done here: Establishing styling and positioning discipline for captions (high contrast, 1-2 lines maximum, placed in the caption-safe area rather than beneath UI bars), extending into accessibility rules (no color-only encoding, flash rate <3 flashes/sec).

The broadcast delivery path requires strictly matching broadcaster specification sheets (ProRes 422 HQ, regional framerates, R128/A85 loudness standards, 90% title-safe, textless master + slate).

skills/video-delivery-specs/SKILL.md
| Broadcast delivery rejected | Used H.264 / wrong loudness / no textless | Follow the broadcaster spec PDF: ProRes, R128/A85, slate, textless |
What is being done here: Distinguishing broadcast and social into mutually exclusive delivery pipelines (social uses H.264; broadcast mandates ProRes + loudness compliance + textless), listing mandatory checks inversely derived from common rejection reasons.

Run pre-delivery QC: first and last frames, audio/loudness, spelling and legal disclaimers, logo/brand colors, safe areas, subtitles, encoding, and verified playback on a secondary machine.

skills/video-delivery-specs/SKILL.md
- Export matches codec/bitrate spec; file plays on a fresh machine.
What is being done here: Turning the final moments before handover into a standardized checklist; references include a full version in qc-checklist.md, a collect-files directory structure, and naming conventions.

Counterexamples are concrete: "cropping later" results in disappeared logos, truncated taglines, and subtitles trapped beneath platform CTA bars.

skills/video-delivery-specs/SKILL.md
**ANTI-PATTERN — "we'll just crop it later":**
What is being done here: Demonstrating via a triple-failure scenario why the master strategy must be decided before animation, rather than patched at delivery.

2Core Capabilities

01Per-platform spec sheets: 3 IG formats, TikTok, YouTube/Shorts, broadcast, OOH, web hero (ratio / resolution / duration / codec / notes)
02Safe areas and UI danger zones (vertical top/bottom margins, TikTok right column, broadcast title-safe)
03Re-layout/cutdown matrix and the "central 1:1 spine" master strategy
04Bitrate and audio guidelines (1080p social 8-12 / high quality 16-20 / 4K 35-45 Mbps; AAC 320 kbps 48 kHz)
05Subtitles and accessibility: burned-in vs. sidecar selection, styling rules, and caption-safe areas
06Pre-delivery QC checklist (9 points: dimensions / frames / audio / text / branding / safe area / captions / codec / file naming & cross-machine playback)
07Handover package structure: clean separation of final delivery, captioned versions (+ srt/vtt), textless master, stills, and licensing README
08Quick reference sheet by project type (ratio / bitrate / codec / captions / danger zones / single-master strategy)

Evidence & Triggers (File Paths & Excerpts)
  • SKILL.md: Pure prompt-based instructions and rule texts without script execution or external impact
Audit Notes: Pure instruction/specification knowledge: contains no scripts, outgoing network requests, credential access, or disk writes; contains zero command-line execution (consistent with other skills in the pack). Caveats (not affecting rating): 1) Platform specs and safe areas are external facts that may become outdated as platforms update—verify against current official documentation before final delivery; values provided reflect stated documentation; 2) Verification of licenses/fonts/music rights within handover packages must be carried out by the user (the skill only mandates including them in the README).

5Second-Pass Verification

6Verdict & Scenarios

  • Mitigates the primary cause of delivery failures (post-hoc cropping) by prioritizing master strategy upfront with actionable workflows (16:9 + central 1:1 spine, vertical reframing)
  • Platform specs and safe areas are detailed down to the pixel level, translating directly to export settings and layout design
  • Subtitles and accessibility are integrated natively: social open captions, long-form/broadcast sidecars, positioning/styling guidelines, flash limits
  • Complete QC checklist and handover packaging structure (segregated finals/subtitled/textless/stills + licensing README + naming conventions)
  • Concrete counterexamples illustrate reproducible failure modes, making the costs of "cropping later" immediately apparent
  • Best for: Ideal for pre-delivery phases: defining master strategies across multi-platform campaigns, verifying platform-specific resolution/ratio/bitrate/duration, reserving safe areas for vertical layouts, choosing between open captions vs. sidecar files, and executing final QC and handover package organization. Also suited for bidding/scoping phases to translate media plans into technical specifications and production workload.
Not for: Not suitable for: 1) Automated platform uploads or API integrations (the skill touches no external APIs); 2) Authoritative compliance specifications (broadcast must strictly follow the official broadcaster spec sheet, as stated in the documentation); 3) Rendering and encoding execution (delegate to after-effects / remotion skills); 4) Creative direction and framing judgments (delegate to shot-composition / animation-principles)—this skill focuses solely on the technical delivery domain.
