scene-continuity-and-transitions

Preserve visual continuity across video scenes with previous-final-frame starts, camera swipes, carryover frames, transition QA, and boundary proofing. Use when a scene must begin from the exact last frame of a previous scene, when adding camera-move transitions, when replacing scene endings, or when debugging stale starting frames.

1How It Works & Mechanism

Establish a "continuity contract" before making changes: previous scene's final frame, current scene's initial frame, transition direction, camera move duration, charts/tables/cards/logos/text duplicated in the next scene, and approved scenes that must not be modified.

skills/scene-continuity-and-transitions/SKILL.md
Before editing a scene, identify:
What is being done here: Turning continuity into a checkable input checklist; duplicated assets in the next scene represent the primary failure mode in this family.

Camera swipes follow directional patterns: shifting right means moving the current world left while the next world enters from the right or lands in a clean empty space; background color, lighting, and scale must remain continuous; avoid fading into a new slide unless explicitly requested by the user.

skills/scene-continuity-and-transitions/SKILL.md
- Move the current world left.
What is being done here: Converting transitions from arbitrary special effects into implementation rules for spatial continuity (moving within the same world vs. switching slides), which is crucial for preventing a "slide-like" feel.

First-frame matching requires duplicating or reconstructing the previous scene's final frame into the new composition, including the latest text, labels, accent colors, plus signs, highlights, and annotations; if the final frame is source-driven, re-render both scenes and extract frames across the boundary.

skills/scene-continuity-and-transitions/SKILL.md
- Re-render both affected scenes if the final frame is source-driven.
What is being done here: Clarifying that "duplication" does not mean pasting a screenshot—reconstructed elements must update in sync with the source to prevent stale initial frames.

Boundary QA follows six checks: no visual jumps at seams, no leftover text from stale renders, no sudden color shifts, no missing annotations added in the previous scene, no unexpected cropping or scale changes, and captions do not obscure critical boundary text.

skills/scene-continuity-and-transitions/SKILL.md
- No visual pop at the join.
What is being done here: Breaking down "looking natural" into six actionable inspection dimensions (text, color, annotations, cropping, scale, captions).

Surgical change rule: Whenever the previous scene's final frame changes, assume by default that the next scene's source may also need updates—search before declaring completion.

skills/scene-continuity-and-transitions/SKILL.md
If the previous final frame changes, assume the next scene may also need a source patch. Search before declaring done.
What is being done here: Codifying the "change impact closure" as a default assumption, reinforced across render-qa and workflows/surgical-final-edit.md.

The boundary proofing procedure fixes four frame extraction points: -0.05s before boundary, +0.05s after boundary, transition midpoint, and the first stable frame; the decision rule flags carryover sources as stale if "a label appears before the boundary but disappears after it."

skills/scene-continuity-and-transitions/SKILL.md
If a label appears before the boundary and disappears after, the carryover source is stale.
What is being done here: Turning stale frame detection into an objective, actionable rule rather than relying on subjective impressions like "it looks a bit jumpy."

Default timing values are assigned by transition type (inter-scene swipes 0.4–1.0s, clean reset holds 0.5–1.5s, product demo landings held long enough to comprehend the first frame, closing CTAs held still after fast entry, clean negative space left when transitioning from charts to questions), with voiceover pacing taking precedence.

skills/scene-continuity-and-transitions/SKILL.md
These are defaults; narration timing wins when explicit.
What is being done here: Providing practical baseline values while giving voiceover timing final authority, avoiding audio-visual desync from rigid timing adherence.

Map verbal user feedback into concrete actions ("It jumps" → run boundary proofing and check scale/position; "It forgot the text" → inspect carryover sources; "It feels like a slide" → replace fade/hard cut with camera motion; "Too fast" → extend transition or add a landing hold; "Too empty" → add ambient motion instead of new panels).

skills/scene-continuity-and-transitions/SKILL.md
"It jumps" means boundary proof and scale/position check.
What is being done here: Translating ambiguous feedback into definitive remediation paths to prevent improper fixes (e.g., misinterpreting "too empty" as a need for more content).

2Core Capabilities

01Initial-frame matching and final-frame reuse: Duplicating or reconstructing the previous scene's final frame into a new composition while synchronizing the latest text, labels, accent colors, symbols, highlights, and annotations.
02Implementation patterns for camera swipes, pushes, and downward pans (shifting the world right, downward pans moving from hook top frames into main content, preserving color and scale, avoiding slide fades).
03Carryover audit checklist: Current scene source, next scene source, legacy HTML with identical heading text, inline SVG text, axis labels, table headers, CTA copy, accent colors; generated snapshots used strictly for QA, never as source assets.
04Boundary proofing procedure (-0.05s before, +0.05s after, midpoint, first stable frame) and the validation rule: "A label disappearing across the boundary indicates an outdated source."
05Transition type to narrative intent mapping table: Camera swipe (different areas of the same world), camera push (drilling deeper into the same object), downward pan (hook to main body), point-to-data (chart to table), product landing (abstract scene to screen recording), empty space reset (breathing room for the audience).
06Dedicated product demo boundary section (checking first screen recording frame, verifying canvas backgrounds, full recording vs. cropped UI landing, detecting pan/zoom prior to crop, eliminating trailing blank frames) and verbal feedback action mapping.
07Common carryover duplicate assets checklist (chart final frames, table final frames, CTA or logo lockups, intro or title frames, product demo ending frames, chart-to-question scene openings).

Evidence & Triggers (File Paths & Excerpts)
  • scripts/: Local script and command execution: (No scripts inside this skill directory, nor are specific commands named in the documentation) Re-rendering scenes, rebuilding assemblies, and extracting boundary proof frames are performed by the host environment according to documentation—specifically via HyperFrames rendering and repository scripts.
File I/O and artifact output: Modified scene source files (including carryover or starting frames of the subsequent scene).
Audit Notes: The skill directory contains only SKILL.md + references/carryover-frames.md (pure instructions, no scripts, commands, endpoints, or credentials); behavioral scope is restricted to local file I/O (modifying scene sources, re-rendering, extracting boundary frames) and text searches across source code, fully complying with Blue tier 'Local read/write only'. **No media or assets are sent to external services**: full scanning of this skill directory reveals no http(s):// endpoints, no fetch/requests, no token/env reading, and no CLI commands. Neighboring rendering and frame-extraction tools (HyperFrames CLI, scripts/extract_proof_frames.py) belong to the repository and host layers; this skill merely references them as criteria. All nine skills in this family share the same tier classification: directory contains only SKILL.md (+ references), scope is local I/O and local CLI, with no endpoints, no credentials, and no external data egress.

5Second-Pass Verification

  • [ok] 「末帧改动即改下一场景源」在族内是否一致(避免同族互相矛盾) — 本件 Surgical Change Rule、render-qa-and-surgical-changes 的 Safe Text Replacement(Search next scene for carryover copy.)、workflows/surgical-final-edit.md(Updating a chart in one scene but forgetting the next scene's carryover chart.)
Re-render both affected scenes if the final frame is source-driven.,而 render-qa-and-surgical-changes 与 end-to-end-video-playbook 强调 Re-render only affected scene(s).。
These are defaults; narration timing wins when explicit.,与 audio-sync-assembly 的「旁白为时序真源」一致,不冲突。

6Verdict & Scenarios

  • Turns the family's primary failure mode (updating the previous scene's final frame while neglecting the next scene's reconstructed duplicate) into a closed loop: default assumption + search procedure + boundary proofing.
  • Verifiable boundary quality: Four-frame proofing paired with the rule "a label disappearing across the boundary indicates an outdated source" replaces subjective "looks jumpy" feedback.
  • Selects transitions based on narrative intent rather than effect names, explicitly identifying hard cuts and slide fades as anti-patterns.
  • Maps verbal corrections directly to actions, turning ambiguous feedback into definitive fix workflows.
  • Provides timing defaults as starting baselines while letting voiceover pacing serve as the final arbiter, preventing conflicts.
  • Best for: Best suited for: Managing seams in multi-scene videos—when a scene must begin from the exact last frame of the preceding scene, when adding camera-movement transitions (swipe/push/pan down), when scene ending replacements render the next scene's start stale, or when debugging issues like stale starting frames, jump cuts, or slide-like transitions. Also fits as an impact closure checklist for final edits (checking the subsequent scene before altering a final frame).
Not for: Not suitable for: 1) Single-scene videos without seams (no carryover issues, use hyperframes-scene-builder directly); 2) Scenarios requiring product screen recording crops and UI legibility criteria (use product-demo-integration); 3) Comprehensive acceptance QA and minor change protocols (use render-qa-and-surgical-changes); 4) Scenarios expecting tools to automatically detect all stale frames—this skill provides search procedures and visual inspection criteria, not automated detectors.
